Share Your Strength
Posted on September 28, 2009
Most of us at VOX Global arrive each morning with strong bodies and minds ready to get to work having enjoyed a nutritious breakfast or at least a muffin from the coffee shop on the way in. But sadly, millions of kids start each school day on an empty stomach. The numbers and stats can be overwhelming, but you can help.
VOX Jr. – the “under 30” employees of VOX Global – are inviting Washingtonians to join them at Gazuza (1629 Connecticut Avenue, NW) on Thursday, September 24th from 6-9 p.m. A $5 donation at the door to Share our Strength (www.strength.org) buys you some light appetizers, discounted drinks and a great networking opportunity all in the name of helping hungry kids.
Why does it matter? Childhood hunger has visible, lifelong consequences. Children who don’t get enough nutritious food are more likely to have:
- Weaker immune systems
- Impeded growth and development
- More stomach- and headaches, colds and ear infections
- Increased susceptibility to obesity
- Impaired performance at school—academically, athletically and socially
If you can’t make this event, log onto www.strength.org and find out about “Dine Out” week September 20-26th where local restaurants are donating a portion of their sales for this important cause. Or, in the time it takes to pour your morning cereal, text the word SHARE to 20222 and donate $5 to Share Our Strength. Remember to reply “yes” to complete your donation.
