Spring is here and it’s the perfect time to refresh your approach to social media!

What’s changed in 2018?

You may have noticed a downward trend in the number of organic comments and shares on your Facebook page, or fewer likes on your Instagram posts. Social media continues to evolve and change, especially when it comes to brand-created content. We know that the big three players (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) have algorithms in place that reduce the reach of businesses. This is forcing an almost entirely pay-to-play environment. That said, social media remains a great investment – with a few tweaks to boost your efforts. Here’s our top three tips:

Tip #1 – Try something new

Social platforms want their new features to catch on. That means early adopters of tools like Facebook Live get a boost. There are very few social tactics that can perform well on their own without help from advertising dollars, but you can guarantee that any new social media features will be displayed more frequently in your audiences’ feeds. We highly recommend giving live video a try and using Instagram or Facebook stories to drive organic engagement.

Tip #2 – Less is more

Generally speaking, quality over quantity is rewarded on social media. Facebook will actually push brands down in the newsfeed for producing too much “filler” content or repetitive links. High engagement is always rewarded, so focus on what your audience truly responds to and find your niche.

Tip #3 – Implement a paid plan

Fortunately, to combat plummeting organic reach and engagement, each social platform has robust tools to promote your posts to the right audiences. You can invest as much or as little as you’d like in promoting your posts to see improvement in impressions, engagement or whatever your priority might be. Paid promotion will help you get more out of less content, and is a must for marketers in 2018.
