Joy Engel

Joy advises clients on digital media strategy, traditional media, crisis communications and community relations. She has experience working in the human rights, consumer technology and education sectors.

Biography

At VOX, Joy works with clients on digital campaigns, advising them on everything from social media strategy to creating online content. Additionally, she works closely with media in Maine and across the United States to promote the concerns and causes of her clients.

Prior to joining the VOX team, Joy worked with Racepoint, a San Francisco public relations firm, advising clients including Sony Electronics and eHarmony on their traditional media and digital relations efforts. She was key to creating the social media campaign for Sony’s Digital Reader by designing both the strategy and the content for the campaign.

In addition to her digital communications expertise, Joy has a strong background in media relations, successfully landing coverage in national outlets such as The New York Times, Associated Press, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post and the CBS Evening News.

Prior to joining Racepoint, Engel was a key member of the online services team at Fenton Communications advising clients on using the Internet and new media tools to better reach their target audiences and at the  MWW Group, where she created and executed community relations, media and consumer-education campaigns for her clients.

Joy gained valuable political experience with the Democratic Governor’s Association and with the campaigns of Bob Menendez for U.S. Senate and John Kerry for President

Joy has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University in Political Science and French.

A native of Maine, Joy spends much of her summer in a kayak exploring Casco Bay. Waterways are not the only thing Joy explores: she also spends much of her time sampling Portland’s food scene. When not out in Portland, Joy spends her time immersed in Internet culture.
