As a Senior Vice President at VOX Global, Matthews manages a varied portfolio that includes a telecommunications, sustainability, healthcare, and regulatory policy. He specializes in providing strategic guidance to clients wishing to influence policymakers through a variety of media including traditional, online, and social networks.
Prior to joining VOX, Matthews served as Director of Communications for Senator Gordon H. Smith who was a leading member of key Senate committees including Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and the Finance Committee. After getting his start in politics as press secretary and legislative assistant for U.S. Representative Wes Cooley, Matthews served as communications director and press secretary for the House Agriculture Committee and its chairmen, Robert F. Smith (Oregon) and Larry Combest (Texas). At the committee, he provided strategic insight to position communications to reflect positively upon the committee, the committee chairman, and the four subcommittee chairmen from various geographic regions.
Matthews graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American government and foreign affairs.
